NEW YORK — After years of professing their parents' innocence, the sons of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg are acknowledging that their father was a spy.

The about-face came after their father's co-defendant, Morton Sobell, admitted for the first time that he and Julius Rosenberg stole nonatomic military and industrial secrets for the Soviet Union.

The Rosenbergs were executed in 1953 for passing atomic secrets to the Soviet Union. Since then, decoded Soviet cables have appeared to confirm that Julius was a spy, but doubts have remained about Ethel's involvement.

The 91-year-old Sobell, who was convicted with the Rosenbergs on espionage charges in 1951 and released from prison in 1969, had maintained his innocence until last week, when he told The New York Times he turned over military secrets to the Soviets during World War II.

My friend Sasha has an interesting story...his mom was CIA and his dad KGB.

They met "on the job" and I can only assume they held administrative positions, as they weren't tasked with turning or killing each other.

That's awesome. :)

Well, notwithstanding the spam above...<sigh>

I have two valuable sources of knowledge within that general community: One of them, Lt. Col. Katherine (no last names) is with MI in Fort Hood, TX. The other is 'Bill,' a technician with the NSA. The loot I've gleaned from them over the years has helped me win a lot of arguments--too bad I've sworn to both of them never to reveal a source or use the info in any other way than score points on libs and make phony know-it-alls like stoopud.

The most fun I have is to dangle the conversation along for awhile, never really coming strong, all the time the lefty I'm arguing with gets cockier...
Then (as Emeril might say), BAM! I'll drop about fifty technical facts all at once: recon, technology reports, intel analysis, bits and pieces floating around the horizon of the latest NatSec estimate, and so on.
Whereupon I can always bank on THE question; "How do you know?"
"I found the info for myself--you can do the same."

Then I shut up.
