This problem is a direct result of government controlling and intervening in the market by controlling interest rates and monitory policies that increase debt. It was never a true free-market.

The best refutation of a mixed economy & socialism in general is Thomas Sowell's "Knowledge and Decisions". That is a seminal work I highly reccomend. I didn't personally understand exactly why Communism consistently failed compared to capitalism until I read it. Sowell is a genius economist.
