It is merely lame, on principle. Taxation of consumption vs. production is the Right Way (tm)

The use of said tax proceeds, on the other hand...

I believe the constitution allows for citizen-sourced revenue for purposes of national defense and infrastructure. To me, these are explicit allowances, suggesting that everything else is implicitly denied...

Yeah, it's legal. But it's definitely moved over from 'government serving people' to 'people serving government', and that is wrong.

An ideal tax rate is far, far lower than what we currently experience. Faaar lower. Ideally, we would want government to provide everything it constitutionally must do with 20% of taxes, that would be state and federal. But that would require ending all social services except for those that are actually necessary. It would also require paying off the national debt. /facepalm
