This is a bit dated, but I feel it's fairly relevant now that Obama is in office:

A tidbit of interest in this tale is that Mr. Martin's house had apparently been burglarized on numerous other occasions, yet every time he sought help from the authorities, he was told his house was just too far out of town.
Tony Martin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Martin_(farmer)) eventually appealed and was finally released from prison after serving three years of a five year sentence.
In 2004, there was a somewhat similar case which resulted in a completely different final verdict. It was the case of Padraig Nally (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_John_Ward). Mr. Nally, an Irish farmer, returned home one day to find two gentlemen on his property. He shot and killed one of the gentlemen and was, through the appellate courts, eventually acquitted of manslaughter. The interesting twist is, there was absolutely no proof either of the gentlemen were there to commit a crime.
Should Tony Martin have been acquitted?
Should Padraig Nally have been acquitted?
Props to Will.Spencer for the additional details on Tony Martin.
